How our assessment process works
From first contact to assessment
We know starting therapy can feel like a big step. Our assessment process is designed to be thorough but low-stress, giving us a clear picture of your child’s strengths and needs.
What happens before the visit
Before we meet, we'll handle the necessary paperwork and insurance checks. We'll also schedule a time that works best for your child—usually a time when they are well-rested and ready to play.
What we do during the assessment
The assessment isn't a test. It looks a lot like play! A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will observe how your child plays, communicates, and interacts with others. We will also interview you to get your invaluable perspective on your child's history and daily life.
What comes out of the assessment
After the visit, we compile a report that outlines specific, measurable goals. These recommendations are customized entirely for your child, focusing on skills that will make the biggest positive impact.
How we decide if we’re the right fit
We want to make sure we are the best team for your family. If we feel your child’s needs would be better met by a different type of provider or a different setting, we will be honest and help refer you to the right place.
What happens after: first sessions & adjusting the plan
Once the plan is approved, we start with our first sessions. These are focused on building a relationship ("pairing") and getting comfortable. We continuously adjust the plan based on how your child responds—nothing is set in stone.
