Emotional Regulation & Flexibility

Life is full of surprises. We help children build the resilience to handle changes, manage anxiety, and navigate big emotions safely.

Who this is for

Children who become extremely upset when plans change, get "stuck" on certain ideas or routines, or struggle to calm down after getting excited or angry.

Common challenges

  • Meltdowns when a different route is taken or a toy is moved.
  • Extreme anxiety about new places or people.
  • Inability to move on from a mistake or disappointment.
  • Difficulty identifying their own feelings ("I'm sad" vs. "I'm mad").

How we help

We teach coping strategies like deep breathing, counting, or asking for a break. We also introduce small, controlled changes to help build tolerance for flexibility, turning "different" from scary to okay.

What progress can look like

It’s a child who says "Oh well, maybe next time" when they lose a game. It’s handling a detour on the way to school without tears. It’s understanding that it’s okay to be mad, but it’s not okay to hurt others.
