Daily Living Skills

Independence starts with the basics. We help children master the everyday tasks that allow them to take care of themselves.

Who this is for

Children who need extensive help with dressing, eating, toileting, or hygiene routines, appropriate for their age level.

Common challenges

  • Resistance to tooth brushing or hair combing (often sensory).
  • Difficulty with buttons, zippers, or shoe tying.
  • Pickiness with food or trouble using utensils.
  • Reliance on parents for toileting.

How we help

We use "task analysis" to break complex skills down into tiny, teachable steps. We might start by just having a child hold the toothbrush, then put it in their mouth, then brush one tooth. We use visuals and positive reinforcement to make these routines less of a battle.

What progress can look like

It’s a morning where you don't have to dress your child. It’s a child who can wash their hands independently after using the bathroom. It's the pride on their face when they zip their own coat.
